Emergency Closing of School

Snow Image

Our Snow Code is 942. The decision to close school is usually made by 6:30 AM and is announced on KYW-1060 (AM radio). A chain call from each homeroom parent will begin as soon as a decision is made. Students may only be dismissed with the adult designated by their parent on the Emergency Closing Info Sheet.

Delayed openings will also be announced on the radio. One hour delays (school begins at 9:00 AM); two hour delays (10:00 AM). Do not send children to school earlier than 30 minutes before delayed openings. (PP S315)

Student Dismissal

  • Students are dismissed in a silent, orderly manner.
  • Students should never be placed in the position of not following school regulations.
  • Prompt attention to dismissal time and manner are appreciated.
  • Parents of PreK students should pick up their child at the PreK school yard area. They should not enter the school. Details on arrival and dismissal of PreK students will be issued separately.
  • Parents who are picking up their child in Grades K-8 should follow the directions given for proper safety.

Early Dismissals

Permission for emergency doctor and dentist appointments should be requested in writing and presented to the Principal and the homeroom teacher. For your child’s safety, requests for changes in dismissal or transportation must be IN WRITING (no phone calls, please!) Parents must sign in at the office to pick up their child for early dismissals. Once the student arrives at school, they may not leave school grounds without explicit permission of the Principal.

Emergency Closing Information

Emergency forms are distributed in September. Please list adults who live within close proximity to school and have transportation available. Parents will always be notified first. Please advise your children whom you have listed on the form.
